This project builds on a previous programme to map seedlings of native tree species in forest reserves in south and central Benin. The current project adds value to the outcomes of the earlier programme by extending the area of study and making the data available through GBIF.org.

Through the project, data administrators and scientists are trained in publishing data, and sampling-event data and checklists from at least 30 permanent forest plots will be mobilized. These data will support the conservation of native plant genetic resources in the forest reserves and inform ongoing monitoring and reforestation efforts.

Project Progress

The project team held two meetings to plan the implementation of field work and data digitization process.

Data from new identified gregarious stands located in Wari-Maro classified forest and data on gregarious native trees in South Benin are being mobilized and digitized.
