    The survey is part of the research projects PITEM Biodiv’ALP – PS 5217 “Geobiodiv” (2020-2022), LIFE BIOAQUAE (LIFE11 BIO/IT/000020; 2013-2017), LIFE RESQUE ALPYR (LIFE20 NAT/ES/000369; 2022), Biodiversa FISHME (BiodivRestor-280; 2022), FP7 ACQWA Project (Grant Agreement No. 212250; 2008-2010).

    Western Alps, in Europe, at the borders between France and Italy.

    Description

    All 101 lakes included in the dataset are located in the Western Alps. The selection of ponds followed the criteria that they had to be from 0.1 to 147 hectares in surface, from 1.0 to 68.5 meters in maximum depth, from 5 to 10 months per year of ice cover duration, and located close to or above the treeline, from 1556 to 3049 m.
