The dataset on testate amoebae (Amphitremida; Arcellinida; Euglyphida) in Sphagnum bogs from Eastern Fennoscandia (Northern Karelia)
Description
The dataset consists of 3064 occurrence entries of testate amoebae taxa, obtained from 236 surface moss samples, collected in 11 Sphagnum bogs from Eastern Fennoscandia (Northern Karelia; Karelia Republic and Murmansk district, Russia). Sample collecting was carried out by Yuri Mazei, either directly or under his supervising, in 2004–2022 years.
Each sample series is designated as a single “parent event” and represents a set of samples (“sample events”), collected at one day at a single bog. In the case a bog was sampled several times, navigation across the dataset can be done using bog designations (“location IDs”) and sample dates (“event dates”). For each bog, a unique couple of geographical coordinates is reported, therefore the geographical coordinates represent bog locations across the dataset.
Most sample series were described in publications (Mazei et al., 2009a, 2009b, 2010, 2011; Mazei and Bubnova, 2009; Mazei and Kabanov, 2008; Malysheva and Mazei, 2013).

Methodology
- Sampling
At each bog, sample points of a sample series encompassed a complete microtopographical gradient (moss hummocks, even moss plots, pools) or represented a gradient “open bog – forest”.
- Study extent
11 Sphagnum bogs from Eastern Fennoscandia (Northern Karelia; Karelia Republic and Murmansk district, Russia). Totally 236 samples of surface moss substrate from 17 sample series (referred as “parent event IDs” in the dataset). Each sample series is a set of samples (“sample events”), collected at one day at a single bog.
- Method steps
Sample collection and laboratory sample preparation were carried out by standard methods (Hendon and Charman, 1997; Mazei et al., 2011; Tsyganov et al., 2012). To make data consistent across the dataset, taxa abundancies are reported as percentage relative abundancies of shell numbers.
