The dataset contains information corresponding to the Complementary Environmental Marine Baseline of the Influence Area (AoI) of Jaguar Terminal Terrestre de Etano Project, from the Terminal Química Puerto México, in the state of Veracruz, in Mexico. The AoI has an extension of 34,435.56 ha, and is located within the Coatzacoalcos River Basin and the nearest Priority Hydrological Region (RHP) is called Los Tuxtlas, being more than 18 km from the project's route. To characterize the marine habitat of the AoI samples of seawater and sediments were taken to evaluate physicochemical and biological data in eight (8) stations off the coast of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz. The marine campaign was conducted from June 15 to June 19, 2023, a period that coincides with the season of tropical depressions in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM). Quantitative phytoplankton samples were obtained by seawater sampling with Niskin® bottles and Van Dorn bottles. The qualitative phytoplankton samples were obtained by casting a standard net with a 20 µm mesh size, and manually releasing along one of the sides of the boat (port or starboard) to a depth of 15 to 20 m. Zooplankton and ichthyoplankton samples were obtained by horizontal oblique trawls using a Bongo net fitted with 300 µm mesh size nets and a flowmeter adapted at the mouth of the net to determine the filtration efficiency. Macrobenthos was sampled with a Van Ven dredge, the sediment sample was carefully passed through two sieves (1,000 µm and 500 µm mesh size) to select the microbenthic and meiobenthos fauna. The samples were identified by taxonomist specialized in each group.
