WBBS foundation

The WBBS foundation aims to determine, promote and monitor the natural values in the province of Drenthe and the surrounding regions, partly based on the population-ecological knowledge gathered in the past, following the work of the founder of the biological station, Dr. Willem Beijerinck. We concentrate mainly on ground beetles, and continue the long-term monitoring started by the Biological Station Wijster in 1959, at eight sites in Drenthe (Dwingelderveld and Mantingerveld). We also manage the archive of the BSW, and its digitization. The archive contains a total of about 1 million beetles, and an unknown number of other insects. Associated projects are gradually integrated into the database
