Description
Our mission is consolidation of efforts of scientists, experts and public activists to protect biodiversity, conservation and development of protected areas, implementation of international environmental legislation in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group (UNCG) was established in 2014 as a team of specialists working on issues of practical nature conservation. Since 2018, the environmental group has acquired the official status of a non-profit non-govermental organization.
UNCG members are actively working on the creation of new protected areas: prepare applications, participate in public discussions on the creation of projected areas in the Ministry of Environment and regional authorities. Over the last 4 years, at least three quarters of all protected areas created in Ukraine have an UNCG members among the authors of scientific foundations or were actively supported by its members.
All areas of the organization's work are related to the collection and analysis of data on biodiversity:
Protected areas. Creation and support of protected areas, participation in legislative activities in the field of nature protection.
Forest protection. Protection of valuable forest ecosystems and biodiversity, support of the implementation of the principles of nature-friendly forest managenment, public control of forests of Ukraine.
Environmentalimpact assessment. Participation in the process of environmental impact assessment, monitoring of projects harmful to wildlife and advocacy of conclusions valid from the point of view of nature protection.
Biodiversity. Collection, assessment and spatial analysis of information on threatened species and habitats for environmental purposes, promotion of biodiversity and modern methods of its research.
Emerald Network. Establisment and monitoring of Emerald Network territories and cooperation with international environmental conventions.
